Terms of use.
The rules of the road for using Emrald — as a player on a server, as a creator hosting one, or as a developer publishing addons. For data handling specifically, see the dedicated Privacy Policy. Last updated: 2026-05-24.
01Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of the Emrald platform, including the web panel at emrald.xyz, the public APIs, the in-game backend, the documentation site, and any associated services (collectively, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Lucas Descamps under the name Emrald Games ("we", "us", "our").
By signing in, creating a project, registering a server, or playing on a server hosted on Emrald, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
These Terms apply in addition to Facepunch's s&box End User License Agreement and the Steam Subscriber Agreement. A breach of either of those agreements is also a breach of these Terms.
02Eligibility
To use the Service you must own a legitimate, unshared copy of s&boxon Steam and meet Facepunch's age and territory requirements. Access through shared, family-shared, hijacked, or otherwise ineligible Steam accounts is prohibited.
You may not use the Service if you have been permanently banned by Facepunch, by Steam, or by Emrald — the integrity of the s&box ecosystem depends on it.
03Account & Sign-in
Sign-in is handled through Steam OpenID. We never see, store, or transmit your Steam password. Your Emrald account is identified by your 64-bit Steam ID and tied to your Steam profile (display name, avatar, email if provided to Steam).
You are responsible for keeping your Steam account secure. Any action taken on Emrald through your Steam account is considered your action. If you suspect your account has been compromised, sign out of all Emrald sessions immediately and notify Steam Support — we cannot re-issue or rotate Steam credentials.
You may not impersonate another user, misrepresent your affiliation with a person or organisation, or attempt to bypass the Steam sign-in flow.
04Player Responsibilities
As a player on any Emrald-powered server you agree to:
- Respect the individual rules of the server you are playing on and the decisions of that server's moderation team.
- Not exploit bugs, glitches, or unintended mechanics to gain an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or harm other players' experiences.
- Not use cheats, hacks, scripts, macros, or any third-party software that modifies or automates gameplay in an unauthorized way.
- Not harass, threaten, impersonate, dox, or engage in hate speech towards other players, creators, addon authors, or members of the Emrald team.
- Not attempt to compromise the security, stability, or integrity of any Emrald server, the panel, the APIs, or underlying infrastructure.
- Not create or use alternate accounts to circumvent a ban or sanction issued by a creator on their server or by Emrald globally.
- Comply with all applicable Facepunch and Steam policies while in-game. Conduct that violates those policies is also a violation of these Terms regardless of context.
05Creator Responsibilities
"Creators" are individuals or organisations that create a project on Emrald and run one or more dedicated game servers through it. Operating a project means you are also bound by the rules below, on top of every Player rule in section 4 (creators are still players on their own and others' servers).
- You are responsible for the conduct of, and moderation on, every server in your project. We do not police in-game behaviour on your server — you do.
- Your server rules must not conflict with these Terms, with Facepunch's policies, or with any applicable law in your jurisdiction or your players'.
- You must not use Emrald to host content that is illegal, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, defamatory, or in violation of Facepunch's content guidelines.
- You must not use Emrald's features (player data, audit logs, moderation tools, project APIs) for purposes outside of running your server. Specifically, you must not export player data en masse for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.
- You must not use Emrald to sell gameplay advantages or monetisation features that violate Facepunch's monetisation policies for s&box.
- You must not attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or otherwise access the Emrald APIs beyond what is permitted by our public documentation and your authenticated session.
- You are responsible for the security of any server tokens we issue to you. Treat them like passwords; rotate them if you suspect they have leaked.
06Addons & Third-Party Content
Emrald lets creators install third-party addons published on sbox.game. An addon is a separate s&box package, authored and maintained by a third party, that Emrald mounts on the creator's dedicated servers at boot.
We do not review, approve, host, or guarantee the content of any addon. Specifically:
- The addon author is responsible for what the addon does, what data it collects through our generic key-value storage SDK, and how the addon behaves at runtime.
- The creator who installs an addon on their environment is responsible for evaluating that addon and accepting the risk of running it on their server.
- Emrald is not liable for the content, behaviour, security, privacy, or availability of any third-party addon.
We reserve the right to block specific addon idents from being installed on the platform if we determine they violate these Terms, Facepunch's policies, or applicable law — without prior notice. Creators using such addons may have their projects suspended.
If you publish an addon, you warrant that you have the right to publish its content, that it does not violate any third party's intellectual-property or privacy rights, and that it complies with Facepunch's and Steam's rules for s&box addons.
07Facepunch & s&box Policy Compliance
Emrald operates within the s&box ecosystem. Facepunch Studios retains authority over the underlying platform, and their rules take precedence in all matters that fall under their jurisdiction.
Any conduct that Facepunch deems a violation of their policies is automatically considered a violation of these Terms. We reserve the right to act on information provided by Facepunch regarding user conduct without requiring an independent investigation.
If Facepunch bans or sanctions your s&box account, we may take corresponding action against your Emrald account at our discretion.
08Enforcement & Sanctions
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, to take any of the following actions against any account or project that we believe has violated these Terms:
- Warning — a formal notice that your conduct is in violation of these Terms.
- Temporary suspension — restricted access to the panel or to a specific project for a defined period.
- Project termination — for creators, removal of the offending project from Emrald, including all environments, servers and addon installations.
- Permanent ban — indefinite removal from the Emrald platform, including all associated accounts, projects and the web panel.
Server-level moderation (kicks, bans, mutes inside a single server) is the responsibility of individual creators within their own communities and is not subject to our review. Global actions are issued by Emrald administrators only and apply across the entire platform.
We are not obliged to explain or appeal individual enforcement decisions, although we will do our best to respond to legitimate requests sent to [email protected].
09Data & Privacy
Using the Service involves processing personal data (your Steam profile, your sessions, your projects, your in-game player data on creator servers). The full disclosure of what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how you can exercise your rights under the EU GDPR is on the dedicated Privacy Policy page. By accepting these Terms you also acknowledge that you have read the Privacy Policy.
10Account & Project Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. Specifically:
- Project deletion — owners can delete a project from its Settings page. The project and every environment, server, variable, permission grant, custom group, addon installation and in-game player profile are wiped. Players who had panel accounts keep a frozen historical snapshot of their participation on their dashboard, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Account deletion — there is currently no self-service "delete my account" button in the panel. To erase your panel account and every piece of personal data we hold about you (including archived community stats), email us at [email protected] and we will process the request manually within one month, as required by the GDPR.
We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service without notice in the cases described in section 8 above. Termination does not entitle you to a refund of any voluntary contribution you may have made to a server creator — those are off-platform transactions we are not party to.
11Intellectual Property
All Emrald branding, design, source code (where not published under an explicit open-source licence), the Emrald name and logo, and the platform's gamemodes developed by Emrald are the property of Lucas Descamps and are protected by applicable intellectual-property law. Without our express written permission you may not copy, redistribute, modify, or create derivative works from any Emrald content.
s&box and all associated assets are the property of Facepunch Studios. Emrald makes no claim of ownership over any Facepunch intellectual property and operates within the s&box ecosystem under the rules set by Facepunch.
Addons distributed through sbox.game and installed via Emrald remain the intellectual property of their respective authors. Emrald acquires no ownership over third-party addon content.
12Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, data retention, bug-free operation, or the availability of any specific feature or addon. We may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event shall Lucas Descamps, Emrald Games, or any contributor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service — including loss of in-game progress, in-game currency, server uptime, player data, business opportunities, or goodwill.
Emrald is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Facepunch Studios, Valve Corporation, or any addon author. References to s&box, Facepunch, Steam, Valve and sbox.game are made for descriptive and interoperability purposes only.
13Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Lucas Descamps, Emrald Games, and their successors and contributors from and against any claim, liability, damage or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of any third-party right (including intellectual-property, privacy or publicity rights); (c) content you publish through the Service (including server rules, in-game content, and addons you author or install); or (d) any action taken by your creator account or any server you administer.
We reserve the right, at our own expense, to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defence of such claim.
14Force Majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations under these Terms that results from causes outside our reasonable control, including without limitation: acts of God, war, terrorism, riots, embargoes, acts of civil or military authorities, fire, floods, pandemics, accidents, network or strike outages, failures of network providers (Railway, Cloudflare, Valve, Facepunch), denial-of-service attacks, or shortages of transportation, fuel, energy, labour or materials.
15Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The failure of either party to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
16Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, in the law, or in our practices. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes (new obligations, removal of features, changes to data handling) we will also make a reasonable effort to notify users through our Discord server and / or by email.
Continued use of the Service after a change has been published constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree with a change, you must stop using the Service and may request account deletion as described in section 10.
17Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by French law, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, the Service, or your account that cannot be resolved amicably shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent French courts of the operator's place of business.
If you are a consumer residing in the European Union, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence.
18Contact
Questions, legal notices, GDPR requests or moderation appeals related to these Terms can be directed to [email protected]. For general support and community questions, our Discord server is the fastest channel — but email is the only official channel for legal correspondence.
